The non-profit group Say Yes to Education is about to launch a partnership with the Buffalo School District whereby college tuition will be guaranteed for every student from a public or charter high school in Buffalo, New York who receives admission to college in any public institution in New York State. Syracuse, New York has had this guarantee in place successfully for the past four years. For the first time, college is a reality for Buffalo students who formerly had no possibility of affording buy essay service for college education.\r\n\r\nPublic education in Buffalo is abysmal with graduation rates of 47.7%. It is easy to deduce that absenteeism is an important factor in preventing a child from being eligible to graduate. More than half the students in Buffalo public high schools were absent 18 or more days last year. In two high schools, 79% of the students missed 18 days. Even more astounding is the figure that over one-third of the city’s high school students missed more than seven full weeks of school.\r\n\r\nSay Yes to Education is seen as a vital kick-start to stimulate interest in students to come to school, to want to learn, to do homework and to visualize a future that they never before dreamed could happen. This is the first chance that Buffalo Schools have had to move from educational failure to success.\r\n\r\nSay Yes does more than provide college tuition. It includes a support system for school children to give them the skills needed to succeed and it starts in elementary school. The package includes tutoring, after-school and summer programs, enrichment activities, health clinics, mental health counseling and legal clinics for families.\r\n\r\nLeaders of the John R. Oshei Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo have worked to bring Say Yes to Buffalo. They are collaborating with school officials, union leaders, parents, the business sector and community members. Donor commitments must be found to underwrite the tuition guarantee for the next twenty years.\r\n\r\nThis windfall for Buffalo has been called a game changer. It will take time but we are on the brink of changing the lives of disadvantaged children through the efforts of a few noble visionaries. It is an exciting time to live in Buffalo.
