No Grounds for a Case Against Arif – Businessman’s Reputation Stays Strong\r\nTevfik Arif is a renowned Turkish businessman best known for its many successful real estate endeavors. Bayrock Group that Arif founded with his brothers is a famous company that has done plenty of impressive projects on US soil. The list includes iconic buildings, such as Trump SoHo and Trump International Hotel and Tower in Fort Lauderdale.\r\nTevfik Arif’s Bayrock Group successfully worked with Donald Trump in both the United States and Europe. The fact that they have done a great job wasn’t enough for those that wanted to harm Arif’s reputation. However, the justice always wins in the end, and that is precisely what happened in 2017 when the Manhattan Court dismissed the case for alleged tax fraud which was made against the Turkish businessman and his associate Felix Sater.\r\nEverything started when Fred Oberlander decided to blow the whistle in the name of the state in what was categorized as a “qui tam” case. In these situations, the Attorney General’s office reserves the right whether they want to intervene in the case. Oberlander was the lawyer of Jody Kriss, the former partner of Felix Sater who worked at Bayrock Group.\r\nOberlander wanted the Court to consider information that was previously removed in the case involving Kriss for the reasons of confidentiality. However, the court wasn’t impressed with his argument and they dismissed the case, which was officially confirmed by the lawyers of Bayrock Group. Oberlander went so far that he publicly presented false information, which was later denied by the Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.\r\nHis office had to release an official statement in which they explain how they do not plan on intervening in the case, as well as that they informed the New York’s Supreme Court that Oberlander falsely said that Schneiderman’s office will approve the case. They reassured there was no involvement whatsoever of the State.\r\nEverything started in 2010 when Kriss hired Oberlander as a representative in a lawsuit against Bayrock. According to details of that suit, the company should have paid a multi-million sum to Kriss. Certain information was ruled out from the case on grounds of confidentiality and Oberlander tried to use it to file the “qui tam” case for alleged civil tax fraud.\r\nHowever, there were no valid grounds for that. The State confirmed that it won’t participate in the case and the Court dismissed the suit. Arif’s and Bayrock Group’s reputation remain unhindered by these unreasonable attempts to damage it. \r\nTevfik Arif is a Turkish real estate, although he was born in today’s Kazakhstan (former the Soviet Union). In 2001, he expanded his business to the United States. From that point, he and Bayrock Group participated in many important building projects.
