Change Excel macro security to medium

 / Published in: Windows Registry

The below is for Excel 2003, but you can probably target Office 2007 or 2010 by changing the version to 12.0 or 13.0 respectively.

At the company where I am currently working, Excel addins are used extensively by various departments. By default, Excel has macro security set to high, but some users are too dumb to read the message that tells them to change the macro security to medium, so I've added the following to our collection of registry tweaks applied during logon to take care of this automatically.

  1. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
  2.
  3. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Security]
  4. "Level"=dword:00000002
  5.
  6. [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Security]
  7. "Level"=dword:00000002
